Roses of Heliogabalus Alma-Tadema - Dutch painter (1836 - 1912). After his studies at the Academy of Antwerp, he moved to England, where he became one of the most popular painters in the late Victorian Age (he was member of the Royal Academy and became baronet in 1899). His portraits and canvases with Egyptian, Greek, Roman subjects drew inspiration from a mannered classicism, which is polished in the drawing and in the soft colours, precise in the archaelogical reconstruction. He drew pictures for the Bible of Amsterdam (with E. Burne-Jones and others) and for some works of M. Maeterlinck's.
